Second Trimester Almost Gone!

schapman70

Wow, this trimester is almost gone! Time has really flown by after the holidays.

Goals Lab

Currently, in goals lab classes, we are almost done with our novel study of Three Times Lucky. We should be finished with the book next Tuesday, February 8th, 2022. On Thursday, February 9th we will review in preparation for a comprehensive test over the novel on Friday, February 10th. Please ask your students about the book. This is a murder mystery book. We have not found out all the details yet, but are close. Ask them who they believe the murderer may be and why!

For the last few weeks, during our math portion of the class, each student has been working on a packet with math activities and worksheets that align with their individual IEP goal. So far this seems to be helping most of our students get the repeated practice they need to help them make gains in their progress monitoring.

This trimester it was my goal to have each student working on their IEP goals each class period. Most of my students have both ELA (reading and/or writing) and math IEP goals. However, there are a few students with just ELA or just math goals. These students have been working on these specific areas for 50 of the 65 minutes of class. In the last 15 minutes or so of class, they have a choice to continue or to choose to read or work on math. For these specific students, it seems to be working well. They want to have a chance to choose what to do the last bit of class and work hard during the rest of the class to earn the choice.

I am really proud of each and every student and the work they are putting in to make gains in their education.

English Foundations

Currently, in English Foundations, we are completing a novel study for Three Times Lucky as well. We are going at a much slower rate than the goals lab classes. We just finished chapter 16 and are going to be taking a quiz over chapters 6-14 on Friday, February 5th. We will be going over all of the questions beforehand in class and the students have their workbook packets to use as a study guide.

I use the Schoology website for my grade book. As of today, February 2nd, Schoology and Powerschool are having problems connecting with each other. I have sent an email to our IT department to help me solve the problem. Hopefully, this will be taken care of soon and you can see an accurate grade in Powerschool.

As always, if you ever have a question or concern please send me an email or call the school.

P.S. Please talk to your students about your favorite books, why reading is important to you, or what stories you loved growing up. I want them to learn to love reading instead of viewing it like a chore. When they hear from you that you enjoy it, they might be more open to the idea!
